Finding The Best Golf Balls

When it comes to trying to select the best golf balls, there are literally hundreds of different types, brands and sizes that you can to choose from. Theres no question that using the right golf ball will definitely improve your game but the question is whether the golf balls the pros are using are the best golf balls for you. You should play the best golf balls for your particular game otherwise you may be sacrificing accuracy and consistency for a few extra yards. Some swear that the Titleis Pro V1x or the Bridgestone Tour B330 are the best golf balls, but just as many swear by the cheap ball they bought in their local discount store that gives them both length and short game control.

Cheap golf balls with a high quality rating perform just as well as the same balls purchased brand new. Don’t be embarrassed to shop around for cheap golf balls either. When you’re ready to buy cheap golf balls, you have your pick of cheap Nike balls, Titleist balls, Callaway balls or no brand balls. Some cheap golf balls are sold specifically for driving ranges, and if you use your cheap balls for this you should ignore your length.

A logoed golf ball is a golf ball that you order with your own specific logo printed on the ball. Logoed golf balls are becoming extremely popular, and it’s amazing to see what you can put on a golf ball. Logoed golf balls travel further than you might think. Either way, custom logo golf balls are fast becoming the hot item in the golf bag, and a hit with companies looking for a new and effective way to get their corporate logo and name in front of the right people, on the course.

Titleist says, “The Titleist DT SoLo golf ball applies a high-lift design to maximize distance for golfers with average and moderate swing speeds seeking the ultimate combination of distance with soft feel and guaranteed cut-proof durability. These golf balls are optimized for golfers with higher swing speeds and will reward them with longer, consistent distances of the tee.

Balls with a higher rate of compression, around 110, are much harder and take a lot more energy and power in your swing to flatten on impact. As a general rule of thumb, if you have a fast swing speed you should use compression 110; golfers with an average swing speed should use compression 100, and a slow swing speed golfer a compression of 80.

Snakeheads: New Sightings of Invasive Aquatic Aliens

One aquatic horror film proclaimed it “Part fish. Part snake. Pure Evil.” National Geographic dubbed it “Fishzilla.” Fishermen call it “A Pike on Steroids.” The US Fish and Wildlife Service acknowledged the name “Frankenfish” and noted that Giant Snakeheads (Channa micropeltes) had “reportedly attacked, and in some instances killed, humans who approached the mass of young” being guarded by their parents.

The discovery of a breeding population of Northern Snakeheads (Channa argus) in Crofton, Maryland in 2002 spawned three bio-horror films: ”Snakehead Terror” (2004), ”Frankenfish” (2005), and the ”Swarm of the Snakeheads” (2006).

Although all greatly stretched the biological truth about these toothy predators, aquarists who have kept a snakehead have no shortage of anecdotes about their ability to eat every last tankmate in an aquarium, even killing other fishes with slashing attacks and not bothering to eat the victims.

Ambush Predators

The Channidae are a family of 29 species of bottom dwelling ambush predators native to Asia that prey on other fish, crustaceans, frogs, snakes, and even turtles, rodents, and water fowl. They are highly regarded as a food fish in Asia, and respected by fishermen for biting human hands when caught. Harmless looking juveniles, although now banned, are sometimes available to aquarium keepers.

Sadly, some dismayed hobbyists are accused of turning troublesome adult snakeheads loose into local ponds, streams, rivers, and lakes. A spreading pattern of invasive snakehead populations has fish and wildlife authorities in many states on high alert for the appearance of these adaptable, voracious fishes. Biologists fear that their introduction to waters outside their native ranges may lead to declining populations of aquatic life not accustomed to the pressures brought by a large, gluttonous predator.

Slithering Invaders

Because they are well able to move overland from one body of water to another (living up to several days breathing air with a primitive labyrinth organ), snakeheads pose special challenges in keeping them contained. Escaped snakeheads tend to be hard to kill, although a number of infestations have been eradicated in several states.

The U.S. Geological Survey reports that Northern Snakeheads continue to spread in American waters, with 2008 sightings in Little Piney Creek near Monroe, Arkansas, in a pond on a Mount Vernon golf course in Fairfax, Virginia, and in Catlin Creek in Wawayanda, New York. One Northern Snakehead was caught in the in Potomac River in front of the Pentagon Building in 2007.

Amy J. Benson of the US Geological Survey in Gainesville, Florida says Northern Snakeheads have established themselves in Arkansas, New York, and Pennsylvania. “The snakeheads are not established everywhere they have been found,” she says. “Unfortunately the small established populations are starting to spread a bit. The largest population by far is in the Potomac River in Virginia and Maryland.”

In all, four different species of snakehead have been caught in the wild in the United States, in California, Florida, Hawaii, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Wisconsin. Hawaii has an entrenched population of Chevron Snakeheads on Oahu, introduced as a food fish in the late 1800s. The Bullseye or Cobra Snakehead (”Channa marulius”), growing to a maximum of 180 cm in length and weighing up to 30 kg, is established as an invasive species in lakes and canals in Broward Country, Florida.

According to the USGS’s Amy Benson, “Several Giant Snakeheads (Channa micropeltes) have been collected in Maryland since 2000, in addition to the Northern Snakeheads.”

Sources of Released Fish

Aquarists “liberating” a snakehead that has grown too big and too predatory, or that has bitten the hand of its keeper, are blamed for some releases into the wild. However, this is a genus with a keen following in Asian food markets in the U.S., where it has been sold live by the tens of thousands, especially by Oriental fishmongers in larger urban centers such as Boston, New York, and Los Angeles.

Indeed, the suspected guilty party in the first release of snakeheads in Maryland was a man who had bought a number of live fish from a seafood market intending to use them for medicinal purposes for his ill sister. When her health improved, he dumped them in local pond.

According to the US Fish and Wildlife Service, snakeheads could conceivably gain a toehold in many parts of North America. “Based on water temperature alone, all US fresh or brackish waters would allow some member of the snakehead family to establish itself,” says an online report called, “Frankenfish: The Facts.”

“Because snakeheads are so predatory, they pose a high risk to endangered species. Of all endangered species in US aquatic habitats, 16 amphibians, 115 fishes, and five of the 21 federally protected crustaceans would most likely be affected by snakehead introductions.”

The U.S. is not alone in worrying about the spread of snakeheads. In February 2008, an angler in Lincolnshire, England, caught a 24-inch (60 cm) Giant Snakehead (Channa micropeltes) in the River Witham. The fisherman, Andy Alder, told the British press: “It had a gob full of razor-sharp teeth. To be honest it looked terrifying.” Authorities believe it was a single fish released into the river by an aquarium keeper and not part of a breeding population. The British have a fine of 2,500 pounds for releasing aquarium fish and have restricted the import of the Northern Snakehead (Channa argus).

Although their sale and possession without a permit are banned in the US, snakeheads are still obtainable via the Internet and occasionally turn up in the live fish trade. Aquarium keepers with snakeheads are strongly urged to ensure they do not end up in local waters, either by intentional release or escape. The US Fish and Wildlife Service can be called to remove a large snakehead that cannot be safely handled by its owner.

What Every Golfer Should Know About Home Putting Greens

What Every Golfer Should Know About Home Putting Greens

How do you say goodbye to 3 and 4 putts? Practice, practice, practice. The key to improving your short game lies in putting practice. But where?

You can practice conveniently on your own home putting green and it may even increase the value of your home. If you’re thinking about installing a putting green, there are several factors to take into consideration.

Will your putting green be portable?

Roll out greens come in many sizes. Popular sizes are 2′ x 6′, 3′ x 12′ to 6′ x 15′. Some feature a regulation cup, while others have a smaller cup than regulation size, which will hone your targetting. Some feature a ball return.

Will you install your green inside or outside?

Indoors, there are small practice greens, rollout greens and larger indoor greens. Large indoor greens can be as large as 12′ x 30′. Outdoor greens can be as large as you want.

How much do you want to spend?

Roll-out greens can be found in a wide range of prices from $20 to $300. Larger indoor greens can cost as much as $700. When you start looking at outdoor putting greens, you are talking about costs per square foot for all of the materials - the green material and the base layers.

What material will your green be made of?

Indoor greens are synthetic of course. When you’re considering outdoor putting greens, you have a choice of materials. Your choice is natural grass or an artificial turf.

At first glance, you may think all-natural grass might be best. Think again though. If you choose grass, you will need to spend time maintaining the green. The question is, would you rather be mowing, watering, feeding and weeding OR putting? Since most golfers choose putting, let’s talk about artificial greens.

Artificial outdoor putting greens

With an artificial putting green, maintenance is minimal which means more time to putt. The synthetic fibers are manufactured to resist fading and matting.

There are two popular UV-treated materials: polypropylene turf and nylon turf. Nylon turf is easier to maintain than polyropylene turf. The fibers spring back so your ball has a true roll to the cup. Nylon turf is also denser than polypropylene turf.

Polypropylene turf needs sand fill to keep the fibers upright. During installation, sand is spread across the top of the polypropylene surface and brushed into the turf with a broom. Since the sand can wear away, from time to time, you’ll need to add more sand.

Outdoor putting greens also require a base of stone or concrete. The cups are concreted into place. As for drainage, synthetic turfs drain off the turf, not through it. Drainage needs to be provided.

How fast will your outdoor green be?

Another decision you’ll make is regarding green speed. Stimp measures how fast the green is. You can have your green speed matched to your local courses or to a championship course. In general, adding more sand to your synthetic green makes it faster.

Will you Do-it-Yourself?

You can buy a putting green kit to install yourself. Many come with video instructions. Depending on the size and design, you may need help in installing the green.

Once your new putting green is installed, you can enjoy hours of putting practice and improve your golf game. For a putting green resource site, visit http://www.allputtinggreens.com/

Buying Golf clubs- Resources That Might Give You An Idea

Picking up suitable golf clubs is significant in the sport of golf. Quite many things are considered when golf clubs are purchased. If you are unaware about what to purchase, then this piece of information would be helpful. Knowing about which club to purchase is general information required for all and is mandatory for regular golfers. Some Golf stores might also provide you with few words of wisdom helping you in some manner. Your essential goal should be purchasing a golf club suiting your swinging style as making a mistake here would disrupt your game. This article would assist you in finding top resources about picking golf clubs and getting them out on the golf course.

Jump over the internet

You need to assure yourself that there are many sources for free golf instructions, online. Any kind of information could be dug over the internet at absolutely no price tag in today’s era. Checking your level of expertise, you can hunt for information from sites that speak on basic knowledge about various clubs, its features and attributes along with specifications. Just browse through your convenient searching engine by punching the name you want to hunt about. You could also get knowledge on various club manufacturers. A few of the sites stand ahead of many offering reliable information on golf clubs. Such pages could be ensured to be bookmarked for later referring. As the Internet has become a network of both unreliable and reliable sites, stick to the ones you are proverbial with.

Golf magazines

Various Golf magazines often have overall sections dedicating to reviews of newly launched golf clubs hitting the market. If any particular brand is the concern then one could go through various golf magazines or its counterparts online, to know about expert’s opinion on different clubs. One could check official websites relating to various golf magazines for several reviews. You can visit Golf forums where expert and novice Golf players exchange tips and ideas. You could also know from consumer websites which would gather information from several sources. Quite many review aggregators are present over the internet making them as best venues to go about. However, few of this is spammed suggesting various other options or at times promoting differing products. You need to show your discretion and speak on the variation between a review and an advertisement.

Seasoned Golfers

Getting in touch with seasoned or expert golfers is another way of knowing more about the picking up the clubs. This again, could be accomplished in several ways. Possibly, you would know some from the course you commonly visit. If this is the case, never make a hesitation to ask them for their advice on various Golf clubs. Most likely, they would be gland in exchanging such information with peer golfers. If you know none of the golfers as such, online forums and communities are always by your side. There are innumerable options about the same and you must ascertain never to miss out on those. Many of these and other information on golf are available free and without the requirement of joining the forum.

The best method of choosing any product is by trying individually. If you are very sure about a particular club going to work just right for you, you can take it to the course for giving it a try. Quite a number of stores would permit using the clubs before getting into the commitment of purchase. If you lack such opportunities from the shops you plan your purchase from, then you can get in touch with the person who would own the clubs you are looking out for. You can check and see if they would let you borrow their clubs so that you could try on them. This would, unquestionably be the apt way about finalizing a club; knowing if you like them.

Playa De Las Americas on the South Coast of Tenerife

First, a word of warning! If you are seeking peace and quiet, Las Americas may not be your best bet for a vacation. It’s the type of place where, by the time you get home again, you might need a holiday just to recover! The main tourist resort in the south of Tenerife is certifiably crazy, mad as a march hare and just waiting to pounce on the unwary tourist! Whatever you want (whether you’re aware you want it or not!), Las Americas offers it all to you with a sunny smile and a glass of your favourite tipple!

Playa de Las Americas compares favourably and ranks on equal terms with many a European ’sun, sand and sea’ destination. But thirty years ago it was quite a different story. There were only a few hotels scattered around a beach developed largely using sand imported from the Sahara. The lively Las Americas you see today was just a gleam in an investor’s eye, while the satellite areas of San Eugenio, Fañabe and Torviscas, and latterly Costa Adeje, now bustling mini-resorts in their own right, were then merely barren expanses of volcanic desert. Present-day Las Americas boasts a myriad of hotels and apartment complexes, old and new, to suit all tastes and budgets. And still the planners plan and the builders build.

The location of Playa de Las Americas owes more than a little to its enviable climate. It is situated at the southern end of the west coast (or western end of the south coast if you like), where the climate is arguably the best on the whole island. And thanks to some skillful land development the area now offers some of the best beaches in Tenerife, all of which meet European Commission cleanliness standards. The waters off Las Americas’ beaches are warm, generally calm and safe, with breakwaters constructed to ensure safety in all but the most adverse weather conditions which, thankfully, are rare (don’t swim when there’s a red flag on the beach).

Las Americas is a jungle of hotels and holiday facilities. As a strictly tourist town built up from nothing over the last thirty years or so, you will not find much Spanish/Canarian culture or history in Las Americas. Not that the town harbours any such allusions in the first place. It is a tourist haven pure and simple, with no pretensions to be anything else. It is geared to fun, fun, fun all the way. And what’s wrong with that? Nothing, judging by the flood of holidaymakers arriving every day, all year round, many of whom return time after time.

“So what are all these tourist facilities then?” I hear you ask. Apart from the traditional sun, sand and sea which I have already mentioned, Las Americas has countless diversions for during the day, the evening and late at night. Surrounded, as we are, by the Atlantic ocean, water-based activities are not surprisingly high on the agenda. Las Americas is home to the world famous Octopus Water Park where you’ll find amongst other things the notorious ‘Kamikaze’ water slide (I survived it!) and a recently-constructed dolphinarium. Would you like to wave at your friends while dangling from a parachute pulled by a speedboat? Don’t worry - you’re so high up that your mates can’t see how scared you are! Or maybe you fancy yourself as a sun-bronzed ’surf dude’, a fearless jetskier crashing across the ocean swell, an old ’sea-dog’ landing the biggest shark since ‘Jaws’, or quite frankly, looking rather silly falling off an enormous floating banana. If you’d prefer to stay dry there are many other activities to tempt you, including crazy golf, tennis and 10-pin bowling, visiting the newborn baby monkeys in the nearby zoo or shooting crazed zombies in the head with a machine gun (my son’s favourite arcade game - bless him!). There is now also a big balloon that takes you high up in the air and gives you an aerial view of, well, tons of things really.

Good news for the golfing enthusiast, there is a new golf course open between Playa de Las Americas and neighbouring Los Cristianos. Not only does the 18-hole, par 62 course known as “Golf Las Americas” improve the appearance of the area - it’s turning the rather unattractive wasteland between the two towns into an oasis of green - but the developers and local tourism council also hope that this new facility will bring more ‘quality tourists’ to the area (that’ll be the ones with loads of dosh then!). The development also includes plush hotel and apartment complexes which are currently under construction and will bring thousands of new beds for visitors to the area.

Another part of Las Americas which is particularly worth a visit is Puerto Colon, or Columbus’ Port. As Las Americas has never had a functional port (the town was built on a previously barren and unoccupied stretch of land), the boating marina at Puerto Colon is a modern, purpose-built harbour. Nestling among Las Americas’ many fine beaches, the marina is an attractive place where you can browse around the shops, then have a meal or drink while enjoying the view over the adjoining beach or over the yachts moored in the marina itself. It is also the town’s main focus for boat/yacht excursions and fishing trips.

Remember also that Tenerife is a small island so the attractions in other towns are not that far away. You will easily find numerous and varied excursions to join, or if you wish you can rent a car if you want to ‘do-it-yourself’. On the subject of cars, Las Americas’ road system is nothing if not chaotic, so if you are driving here be careful to check the road signs and observe stop signs and traffic priorities, which are not always what you might expect. And if you are a pedestrian - get the hell out of the way! Seriously though, you must be very careful as cars often travel faster than the speed limit and generally don’t stop at ‘zebra crossings’. Parking can also be a nightmare in certain areas. Please, please don’t let the above deter you from coming here even in the slightest: we feel that as a tourist-guide-type-of-thing, we must draw your attention to the finer points of road etiquette here, and such things always sound a lot worse when you read them than when you actually get here and see for yourself! Unless you get hit by a bus of course.

When you’ve had enough fun on or in the water, climb back onto dry land for a hearty meal or quench your thirst in one the numerous bars that line the streets. Many bars offer traditional ‘pub games’ such as pool and darts, while others may show current feature films, re-runs of old comedy favourites, or live sport on satellite TV during the day. In the restaurants you’ll find quality food at attractive prices, ranging from the staple diet of many British holiday makers - the ‘Traditional English Breakfast’ (served morning, noon or night if you want!) - to an array of first class international cuisine: Spanish, Canarian, Indian, Italian, Chinese, Mexican, French, Swiss, Lebanese, Thai - you’ll honestly be spoilt for choice.

So night falls, you’ve shaken the sand out of your underwear and you’re ready for a night on the town. What to do? There is no shortage of pubs and bars catering to all tastes and ages. Some are family oriented, others are not really suitable for the kids. Some, notably Spanish and German, cater mainly to their fellow countrymen but most, it seems, are geared to the British (or at least to the English-speaking) holidaymaker. Lots of bars offer a nightly cabaret in one form or another, to entertain you while you relax. You can see anyone from Elvis Presley to Elton John (no, not the real ones!), watch a drag act or laugh (hopefully) along to a comedian. There are also a couple of good venues to see a live rock band. Many family bars will have a compere to keep the atmosphere relaxed and convivial, while the bars where the ‘young, free and single’ head to may have a DJ spinning records, cracking jokes, swearing profusely and generally keep the party ticking over until it’s time to stagger outside, trying to remember the name of your hotel. Or at least what country you are in.

Las Americas benefits from very liberal regulations regarding opening hours - basically: open when you like, shut when you like! Hence many bars will be open until 3a.m. And even that’s not necessarily the end of the night if you’re young, fearless and in ‘party mode’. Night is when the central seafront areas known as ‘Veronicas’ and ‘The Patch’ come to life. The Patch is a smallish area densely packed with bars and restaurants. It is usually heaving with youngsters coming and going into the early hours of the morning. A five minute walk down the road is the alcohol-fuelled, sometimes surreal (ask my mate Rob, but that’s another story!), nocturnal world of Veronicas. Here is where you will find countless bars, burger joints, discos that stay open until six in the morning playing the latest dance hits. And occasionally some real music! You’ll be accosted every five paces by a PR trying to drag you into this place or that place, or by someone trying to sell you some bargain or other. Certainly not a family atmosphere, but very very popular with the younger crowd.

There are also shows you can go to in the area, usually bookable in advance and at some you will get a full meal included in the entry price. Shows such as the medieval night (knights, jousting, sword-fighting etc), the Spanish ballet and flamenco extravaganzas, a classy soul and Motown night with excellent American singers, are just some of the attractions available. If your cash is burning a hole in your pocket there are two casinos where you can have a flutter. There are also ‘adult shows’ where you can … er, this is a family website so use your imagination!

What are the Best Golf Exercises for Your Golf Fitness Program and Golf Training Program

Golf exercises within a comprehensive golf fitness program can improve the fundamentals of your golf swing. These types of golf exercises within a golf training program can benefit golfers of any age. The problem many golfers face is determining what are the best golf exercises to place within their golf fitness training program. We are well aware that many professionals on the PGA Tour today implement golf fitness training into their programs. It is without question a part of what many professionals utilize to improve their golf game. The questions I often get is; what are the best golf fitness exercises for the amateur?

Before providing a set of exercises to utilize in the improvement of your game. We must first understand what comprises the golf swing from a biomechanical perspective. It is a functional athletic movement, utilizing the entire body in the execution of it. It is a “feet to fingertips” movement incorporating the entire body.

In order to execute the swing correctly specific physical parameters are required of the body. Basically to perform each phase of it efficiently and effectively certain levels of flexibility, balance, muscular strength, endurance, and power are required. If the body is lacking in any of these categories the execution of the golf swing will be hampered.

Knowing these factors about the golf swing provides us the background required to determine the best exercises for golf. In general the ideal exercises for golf will develop these physical parameters of the body to enhance your game.

For example, the ideal fitness program would entail flexibility exercises to improve the ranges of motion in the joint of your body. This would enhance your ability to draw the golf club through the long ranges of motion required of the swing. One such exercise I often recommend for this section of a golf fitness program is Rotators.

The second set of exercises within such a program would focus on balance. The golf swing requires balance in order to develop tempo and execute each phase of the swing. Specific exercises such as Airplane Rotations can improve the ability of your body to balance within the biomechanics of the swing.

Finally, a series of exercises to improve the strength, endurance, and power of your muscles would be a part of such a program. These exercises would improve the ability of your muscles to maintain a fixed spine angle, create rotation, decrease muscular fatigued, and finally develop more power. Numerous exercises can be incorporated into this section of the program. Some of my favorites are Seated Russian Twists, Medicine Ball Chops, and Tubing Rotations.

To summarize, the best golf exercises within your golf fitness program develop the physical parameters of the body for the golf swing. These types of golf exercises will enhance your ability to execute the golf swing correctly and improve your current golf game.
