TaylorMade R9 Series Features Flight Control Technology

Innovation has always been a hallmark of TaylorMade golf clubs, and the TaylorMade R9 Series introduced in early 2009 is no exception. The new series includes R9, R9 TP, R9 460 and R9 460 TP drivers, as well as R9 and R9 TP fairway woods. (TP stands for Tour Preferred.) And they’re arguably the most customizable and adjustable clubs on the market.

The major innovation of the R9 series is a feature TaylorMade calls Flight Control Technology (FCT). FCT allows the golfer to set the loft, lie and face angle to eight different positions. Combine FCT with TaylorMade’s movable weights technology (available on TaylorMade R9 drivers, except for the R9 460 model), and golfers have the ability to affect side-to-side ball flight by up to 75 yards.

That’s a lot of customization possibilities. In fact, with the eight positions and three weight options, some have called the TaylorMade R9 “24 drivers in one.” According to TaylorMade, adjustments can be completed in seconds.

A few turns of the bolts with the special TaylorMade white wrench can help straighten out an ugly slice or seemingly uncontrollable hook. Or, as TaylorMade says at its Web site, “Adjust the head. Adjust the weights. Totally optimize you.”

Marketing hype? Perhaps. (Is any golfer but Tiger Woods ever totally optimized?) Yet early reviews from independent golf and golf equipment Web sites and comments from PGA Tour players such as Kenny Perry and Pat Perez (see below) would indicate the TaylorMade R9 Series is the real deal.

Another touted feature of the TaylorMade R9 series is the Fujikara Motore graphite shaft with a High Intertia Tip (HIT), technology designed to give the shaft extra kick for more distance. The clubhead size of the R9 drivers is comparable to other TaylorMade drivers such as the r7 SuperQuad. However, the R9 is not as large as the TaylorMade Burner.

Also featuring FCT (but not movable weights), TaylorMade R9 Fairway Woods are available in both right- and left-handed models and include loft options of 13, 15, 17 and 19 degrees. They also come standard with a 70-gram Fujikura Motore graphite shaft.

What PGA Tour Pros Say

When Taylor Made recently added the R9 460 to its R9 Series of drivers, Kenny Perry, the world’s No. 7 ranked player, gave it a test drive on the practice range at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas. Perry experienced an immediate power surge.

“I jumped up five miles per hour in ball speed immediately,” he told Golf.com’s David Dusek.

“I’ll go to Bethpage early and I’ll take both my drivers,” Perry added. “My regular R9 and this one [the R9 460]. If I feel like I need to hit it straight, I’ll use the R9. If I feel like I need to bomb it, then I’ll use that one [R9 460].”

PGA Tour pro Pat Perez is also a true believer. Perez won the 2009 Bob Hope Classic with a TaylorMade R9 driver in his bag. It was the veteran’s first PGA Tour victory.

“I’m telling you, it’s the best driver I’ve ever hit,” Perez said. “And I’ve tried a lot of them.”

How to Quickly Fix Your Golf Club Grip and Improve Your Swing Fast!

Every year after the long hibernation of winter, we dust off our bags, shine up our shoes, polish our clubs, and head off to the golf course to play the gentlemen’s game of golf. So I thought that this would be a wonderful time to think about why we play golf, and review some points of golf etiquette. There is an old golf saying, “Play the ball as it lies, play the course as you find it, and if you cannot do either, do what is fair.” We would always do well to follow this simple rule as it makes the game more enjoyable for everyone concerned.

Golf is a social game, and you frequently find an interesting mix of players on the course at any given time.
So, as we begin a new season of play, this is a wonderful time to think about why we play golf, and review some points of golf etiquette.

Always think safety. There are little, round projectiles sailing past you on all sides. Look where you aim to make sure that there are no other players in your path. Keep your eyes open for a stray ball plummeting from the sky, and sound the alert, “Fore!” if you’ve hit a wild one!

Be considerate of other players in the group by limiting your movement and taking care to speak quietly especially when other players are lining up their shots. You will appreciate it when your friends afford you the same courtesy.

Be aware of your pace of play. Try to rate yourself to the pace of the course on any given day, but if that is just not working, always be polite and allow a faster group to play through, and try not to breathe down the neck of the group in front of you.

Do your absolute best to leave the course as you found it. Everyone causes a divot at some point in his golf career, and there is no shame in this. Leaving it in disrepair, however, is just plain inconsiderate. This same rule would apply to leaving ball marks on the greens. Somewhat in the same vein, when you plow through a bunker, the rake is provided for a reason, to make it like you were never there!

By just putting a little thought into your fellow golfers, you can make everyone’s golfing day the best one — so far anyway!

Golf Trolleys – Making it easier for you!

With so much to carry around the golf course you need to be sure to get yourself a good golf trolley. You need pockets for your waterproof gear and sweaters, space for your towels and umbrellas and obviously some room for your golf clubs and golf balls. So what do you need to think about when it comes to getting yourself a good golf trolley? There are two types, the pull trolley and the electric golf trolley, both of which will be discussed in greater detail for you to make a great choice to aid your golf.

Pull trolleys are a fantastic energy saving device; made from lightweight metal they are designed to increase your comfort as you make your way to the green. The Pull Trolley comes with wheels, a platform to fit your cart bag on and an ergonomically designed handle for greater ease as you complete your 18 holes.

Save yourself even more energy round the golf course with an electric golf trolley; a fantastic investment where a simple button does all the work for you, allowing you to place a greater focus on your golf swing. The electric trolley comes with a motor and battery to propel it round the golf course with the battery normally needing to be charged after each round. Onlinegolf have a great range of electric golf trolleys available at incredible prices.

We even stock the Motocaddy S3 with Lithium battery ; a revolutionary product that can power up the steepest slope while being exceptionally quiet and easy to control. You have 9 different speed settings with a battery that is able to last 36 holes on one charge. This trolley is bound to become your new best friend!

So how do you decide what you want? An electric golf trolley might be better for a golfer with a bad back or someone who wants to exert a little less energy on the golf course. While a pull trolley is less of a financial investment that can be taken apart quickly and easily. At the end of the day both make your round of golf that little bit easier, saving you of any unwanted aches and pains.

No one takes pleasure from lugging their carry bag from one hole to the next so be sure to add a golf trolley to your golfing gear. You will feel the benefits as you race round the course to a new handicap!

Some Rules of Golf Etiquette

Tournament officials at the State Farm Classic disqualified Michelle Wie recently for failing to sign her scorecard. This wasn’t Wie’s first disqualification from an LPGA tournament. Tournament officials also disqualified her for taking a bad drop at the Samsung World Championship in 2005—her first event as a professional. Her drop landed the ball 12 to 15 inches closer to the hole. Neither of Wie’s violations was intentional. But they did violate the rules.

Some rules of golf may seem pretty harsh to the average weekend player. But they’re well thought out. They prevent players from gaining an unfair advantage on another golfer. Other “rules” of golf that players should follow are more courtesy than anything else. Golf’s rules of etiquette aren’t always covered in golf lessons and golf tips, but they make the game more enjoyable and should be adhered to as well. Below are some of the more common ones that all players should follow regardless of their golf handicaps.

Play Ready Golf
In tournament play the player whose ball is farthest from the hole generally plays first, followed by the player whose ball is second farthest from the hole, and so on, until everyone has holed out. In causal play, play ready golf instead. That means hit when ready, even if you aren’t away, until you reach the green. That speeds up play. Also, be prepared to hit when it’s your turn on the tee. And don’t spend more than 5 minutes looking for a ball. The idea is get around the course as quickly as possible without hurrying. Evaluate your play honestly and often. If you’re slow, speed up.

Repair Divots
This should really read, “Repair the ground you play on.” Many weekend golfers fail to repair the course out of laziness. Others simply don’t care. But making repairs only takes a minute or two and it helps keep the course in good shape. Carry a penknife or a divot tool to repair ball marks on the green. Replace divots when you can or use the seed mix packed on the side of your cart. And rake bunkers after hitting from them. Make the bunker as smooth as you can and don’t leave furrows after raking. Ask yourself if you would want to play from the bunker. If not, then go back to work.

Be Respectful On The Green
There’s nothing worse than someone talking or making a loud noise in the middle of your putt. Stand quiet and still from the moment a player sets herself until the ball has left the club. Then you can do all the talking and moving you want. If a player is putting, don’t stand in his field of vision practicing your swing. Never, and I mean never, walk in someone’s line of play on the green, even if you are wearing spikeless shoes. And never stand in a player’s line of play either behind the player or beyond the hole. Note where every ball is on the green, and then stay clear of everybody’s line.

Turn Off Cell Phones
Many people carry cell phones on a course for good reasons. But if you have to carry a cell phone, turn it off when playing. No one wants to hear one ring in the middle of one’s backswing, especially on the tee or the green. If you’re waiting for an important call, you can always check the phone between shots. If you have to return a call, keep your voice down and step off to one side. Also, make the conversation as brief as possible.

Observe Cart Etiquette
Carts are an integral part of today’s game. But they can damage a course. So observe good “cart etiquette” when playing. Ideally, your goal is to leave no trace of having driven a cart over the course. Avoid wet areas, areas under repair, and areas that have been beaten up. Follow the directional signs club’s put out and the pathways lining the course. Instead of following each other single file before branching off, scatter—everyone taking a different course—so cart traffic is spread out. Scattering minimizes the damage done to courses by carts.

Other rules of etiquette include laying the flagstick down carefully, tamping down spike marks when walking off a green, and letting faster groups play through. Also, always check the green before leaving to make sure you or another player hasn’t left a club behind that might interfere with another player’s shot.

These are just a few of the game’s rules of etiquette. Many aren’t covered in golf instruction sessions. But you can learn them by staying alert and noticing what others do. The idea is to make the game as enjoyable as possible. Following the rules of etiquette is something every golfer can and should do, regardless of his or her golf handicap. It’s just common courtesy.
