Golf - Tiger Woods To Play at the Australian Masters

Tiger Woods announced that he is going to participate in the Australian Masters that is going to be held at the Kingston Heath in the Melbourne area in November. This will be the first appearance of the golfer Down Under since 1998 and the fourth time that he participates on a tournament in Australia; the last time was in the 1998 Presidents Cup.

The first visit of Woods was during the Australian Open in 1996 on the Australian Course in Sydney, where he finished tied for fifth behind the winner of that time, Greg Norman. His next tournament was the Australian Masters in 1997 at Hungtingdale in Melbourne where he finished seven shots behind the winner in that moment, Peter Lonard.

His participation, according to the Victoria State premier John Brumby, has already been confirmed. Brumby also explained that the visit of the top ranked golfer will give a lot of benefits to the state of Victoria, including $12.54 million in economic earnings, covering the $2 million fee that Woods is charging just for the appearance in the tournament.

“We expect thousands of visitors from interstate and overseas will come to Melbourne to see the world’s greatest golfer on one of Melbourne’s world-class golf course,” the premier said in the statement. “The event will boost tourism, create jobs for Victorians and beam Melbourne to millions of people through a worldwide television audience.”

The Australian golfer Stuart Appleby, who regularly plays against Woods in the PGA Tour, explained that this is something important for the people that haven’t seen him in person and that will be able to do it now. He also stated that not many people will understand why he is earning $2 million for just showing up, but they have take into account all the benefits he will bring with him, mostly economic. He added that Woods has been in Asia and Europe a couple of times and that is good to have him in Australia too.

The director of the Australasian Tour Tournament, Andrew Langford-Jones, has also backed up the investment of bringing Tiger Woods for the tournament because is worth it. He explained that a lot of people depend on the golf industry for their jobs and incomes. He also said that the accommodations for the crowds that are going to be assisting to the Kingston Heath would be stretch, since they are estimating between 70.000 and 100.000 people going to the tournament.

Tiger Woods has recently come back to the golf courts, after he spent eight months resting and recovering from the knee surgery he had back in 2008 after winning the US Open. Woods finished ninth at the World Golf Championship event in Miami four days ago and lost in the second round of the Accenture World Match Play in Arizona two weeks earlier, those were the first events in which he has taken part this year. Tiger seems to feel fine after this well deserved and needed rest and we hope the best for him in the future.

A Story of Superstardom: Gossip Girl Cast’s Shot to Fame

After the controversial and risque GG ad campaign, the Gossip Girl cast find themselves in the midst of squealing fans, million dollar contracts and multimedia endorsements. They did not only rule primetime television, but also graced the covers of famous magazines all over the world. With their faces all over any medium of entertainment, it’s hard not to conclude that Gossip Girl is breeding the next paramount set of Hollywood stars.

The Faces behind the Massive Number of Gossip Girl Fan Sites

Blake Lively
Blake comes from a showbiz family. Inevitably, she gave in to the heed of theater at a very young of 11 when she took the role of Trixie the Tooth Fairy in the movie, Sandman. She finally got her first big break in the hit movie, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants I and II. In the movie, she played the role of the blonde athletic babe, Bridget. It was said that her similarity with the character was so strong that handing in her photo alone already got her the part. Blake’s success really hit when she landed the part of Serena van der Woodsen in the hit teen sensation, Gossip Girl. She also starred in the college comedy, Accepted opposite Justin Long. We will soon see her in the film Elvis and Anabelle, a movie which is already receiving a lot of support and great reviews from fans and critiques.

Leighton Meester
Leighton’s statuesque look and come-hither glamour were first seen in several TV series such as CSI, Seventh Heaven, Law and Order, Simple Rules and House. But before all the fame, her life already seemed like the stories you see in movies. Before she was born, her parents were incarcerated for drug charges. For a time, she lived with her relatives until her mom was given pardon. Despite these, Leighton has maintained a very positive outlook about her parents’ past saying that she has no hatred towards what her parents did. Staying true to the saying, “let bygones be bygones”, Leighton never allowed this stumble to stop her from reaching her dreams.

Aside from being glammed up for her role as the manipulative Blair Waldorf in Gossip Girl, Leighton Meester is also an aspiring singer/songwriter. In fact, she’s already working on her album in between her GG responsibilities. The album is said to be an eclectic mix of RnB, soul and pop according to the star.

Taylor Momsen
At a tender age of 15, model/actress Taylor Momsen has already cast her name as one of the most famous upcoming teen stars thanks to her role as Jenny Humphrey in Gossip Girl. She started out starring in kiddie movies like How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Spy Kids 2, and Underdog. These days, the 5’8” actress has been the muse of many fashion designers for her model-like appearance and doll face. Momsen was signed as a model under IMG.

Recently, Momsen is facing a lot of issues and controversies touching on her rail-thin body, outrageous fashion sense, and her hospitalization scare. There is also a rumor about her dating 23 year-old co-star, Chace Crawford. On the hand, the two young stars haven’t commented regarding their alleged relationship.

Ed Westwick
He rose to fame because of his role as the womanizing Chuck Bass in Gossip Girl. Far from the character he portrays, Ed Westwick said that he’s a one-woman type of man and that he doesn’t see himself as morally bankrupt as the persona he exudes on-screen. The only similarity he probably has with his character would be their undeniable appeal with the girls.

Unknown to some, Ed Westwick is actually British, but his amazing American accent and suave look landed him the part of the most famous womanizer on TV.  He is also a member of an up and coming rock act which first shot to fame in London. When he’s not busy shooting for GG, he’s creating music with his band, Filthy Youth, back in his hometown.

Penn Badgley
Just like girlfriend Blake Lively, Penn also heed the call of acting at a very young. When he moved to Washington, he juggled schooling with his passion for the theater and became part of the Seattle Children’s Theater. Starting out as a child star, Badgley appeared in TV series including Will and Grace, What I Like About You and Daddios. He also did some voice work for video game, Mario Golf 64.

In 2002, he starred in Do Over and played Joel Larsen, a 34-year old man who gets a second shot to straighten his life through a weird accident that brings him back to 1980 as a 14-year-old. He also appeared in another show, Drive Through, with his future Gossip castmate, Leighton Meester.

Badgley also appeared in movies like John Tucker Must Die and is soon to star in the remake of The Stepfather.

Chace Crawford

Chace Crawford began acting as a hobby while he was attending Pepperdine University in Los Angeles. Shortly after, he landed a role in the hit film, The Covenant before bagging the role of Nate Archibald in Gossip Girl.

Chace Crawford has been pretty popular with the ladies on and off screen with his much publicized relationship with country singer, Carrie Underwood, and rumored fling with co-star Taylor Momsen.

Gossip Girl has been a springboard for many of these young actors to access an instant ticket to Hollywood portal. With the extreme popularity that the Gossip Girl cast is gaining not only in the US but the world over, we are certain that this bunch of gorgeous stars have already begun their long journey in the realm of glamour and lights.

THE SIMPLE GOLF SWING

Dear Friend and Fellow Golfer,
Simple Golf Swing eBookCan you handle the truth?
Most club pros don’t think so. And certainly none of the other golf instruction sites will tell you what I’m about to.

Ready?

You’ll never develop a swing like Tiger’s. Or for that matter, Mickelson’s, Els’s, Daly’s or Garcia’s.
To be brutally frank, no matter how hard you try or how often you practice, odds are you’ll NEVER be able to swing the club like the top tour pros.
Why? Because, like most of us, you weren’t born with their physical ability.
Besides, each of the big-money pros has a swing that’s unique to his (or her) physique. It’s hardwired into the DNA. That’s how they got to be big-money pros.
Does that mean you’ll never play better than you play right now? That you’re doomed to be a duffer? The butt of countless jokes from your buddies? A study in frustration?

No! Nein! Nyet! Non!! No way!

Because there’s another, more important truth.

Now, there  are a ton of people who play golf just to hack around and have some fun.  But more avid players are always trying to improve their swing and overall game.  The problem is that golf is a very difficult game to master and you don’t have enough time to practice to really improve significantly.  Even the guys who play golf for a living and have the best golf instruction in the world still struggle and they practice every day!

Secret About The Olympics

The Olympics is a global sport, every country feels proud for holding it. However, it exists some secrets that are not known by every people. Here are 10 facts about the five-ring circus:

1. Pierre de Coubertin, founder of the International Olympic Committee, has decided to send his heart to the site of ancient Olympia in Greece, where it is kept in a monument. And the rest of him was buried in Lausanne, Switzerland.

2. Chicago was supposed to host the 1904 Olympics, but St. Louis stole it away. The Games were a fiasco. Only 14 of 32 participants finished the marathon, which was held in 90-degree heat with a single water well at the 12-mile mark. Cuban marathoner Felix Carvajal, who lost his money in a craps game in New Orleans, hitchhiked to St. Louis and ran the race in street shoes. He stopped to chat with spectators and to steal apples from an orchard but still finished fourth. American Fred Lorz dropped out after nine miles, rode in a car for 11, then rejoined the race and crossed the finish line first, quickly admitting his hoax. The prize went to American Thomas Hicks, whose supporters gave him strychnine and brandy — the first known use of performance-enhancing drugs in the Olympics.

3. No boxing was held at the 1912 Stockholm Olympics because the sport was illegal in Sweden.

4. George Patton, who would later become a famous U.S. general, competed in the 1912 Stockholm Olympics pentathlon, an event combining pistol shooting, swimming, fencing, cross country and steeplechase. Patton performed poorly in his best event — pistols — but shined in fencing, defeating the French army champion. Old Blood and Guts finished fifth overall, the only non-Swede to make the top seven.

5. Tug-o-war made its last appearance as an Olympic sport in 1920.

6. French athletes bent the rules at the 1932 Los Angeles Olympics: Despite Prohibition, they were allowed wine with their meals.

7. The greatest star of the 1936 Berlin Olympics was the 10th child born to an Alabama sharecropper family named Owens. But he was not born with the name Jesse. He was called James Cleveland Owens, and as a child moved to his namesake city — Cleveland. A teacher asked his name, and he said “J.C.” The teacher thought he said “Jesse,” and the boy was too polite to disagree.

8. Another great Olympian with Chicago ties was Johnny Weissmuller, the winner of five gold medals in swimming who later starred as Tarzan in the movies. Amazing! Weissmuller swam brilliantly in the 1924 and ‘28 Olympics — and also in the waters off Chicago’s North Avenue Beach on a stormy day in July 1927. Weissmuller was training on the lakefront with his brother Peter when a sudden storm swamped the pleasure boat Favorite. The disaster killed 27 of the 71 people aboard — mostly women and children — but the Weissmuller brothers rescued 11 people. Our hero.

9. And there is a study of the 2004 Athens Olympics which shows that athletes who wore red while competing in “combat sports” such as wrestling scored higher than opponents wearing blue. Very interesting but no scientific evidence yet.

10. Olympic sites are chosen by secret ballot, so we’re not sure how London beat Paris for the 2012 Summer Olympics. But some blame French President Jacques Chirac, who insulted Britain before the vote by saying, “After Finland, it’s the country with the worst food.” France’s bid wasn’t getting British support anyway, but Finland had two IOC members, and some speculate that they were swing votes in the 54-50 outcome.

11. And the last secret is whether golf will be involved in the 2016 Olympics. I am wondering many people concerns this problem very much. But I think the result will come out very soon.

How To Set Up A Golf Fitness Program To Improve Your Golf Game

Professional golfers on the PGA Tour understand the connection between golf swing mechanics and the body. The most notable players in the world have regimented golf fitness programs they adhere religiously too. The benefits of such programs have been well documented in the media. Press clippings from Tiger Woods, Vijay Singh, and Phil Mickelson all refer to golf fitness exercises being a component of their regular practice schedule.

The amateur can learn a lot from the pros. They can learn the importance the body has in relation to the golf swing, how golf swing mechanics and the body are intertwined, and improvement in the golf game requires the implementation of a golf fitness program.

Where most amateurs get “off-track” with their golf fitness training is the components and exercises incorporated in such a program. Golf fitness programs are quite different then “general” fitness or “weight training” programs. A golf fitness program is designed to develop the golfer’s body around the golf swing. In order for this to occur certain parameters and exercises are required in such a program.

First and foremost the amateur golfer must understand the connection between the golf swing and body. The golf swing is a complex series of biomechanical movements execute by the golfer. In order for the golfer to execute the biomechanics of the golf swing correctly. It is necessary for the golfer to have certain physical parameters well developed.

These physical parameters are flexibility, balance, muscular strength, muscular endurance, and muscular power. High levels of flexibility, balance, strength, endurance, and power are required to execute the golf swing correctly. Often times the amateur golfer is not flexible enough, strong enough, or powerful enough to execute the golf swing correctly.

This results in the golfer developing compensation patterns in their golf swing. The result being poor shots and high scores on the golf course. Bottom line is a physical foundation of flexibility, balance, strength, endurance, and power is required to develop an efficient golf swing. If the amateur golfer is lacking in anyone of these categories the foundation upon which the golf swing is being built will be insufficient.

Once the amateur golfer understands the connection between the golf swing and the body it is necessary to implement a golf fitness program, A golf fitness program is different than “traditional” training programs in such this type of program develops the body around the golf swing.

A golf fitness program trains the body to the positions, movements, and requirements of the golf swing. A golf fitness program is not concern about “beach muscles” or how one looks in the mirror. Rather a golf fitness program has the primary goal of improving the scores on the golf course and play of the golfer.

This type of improvement is a result of using exercise to develop the physical parameters of the body relative to the golf swing. A golf fitness program will include flexibility exercises, balance drills, muscular strength exercise, endurance training modalities, and power drills. Exercises from all of these categories are included in a comprehensive golf fitness program.

Understand the exercises and drills within each of these categories are not necessarily traditional type of exercises. For example, flexibility exercises for golf are less concerned about touching your toes, and more concerned about completing a full shoulder turn. Flexibility exercises for golf are geared towards developing the flexibility within your body to execute the components of the golf swing correctly.

The same can be said about every other category of exercise and drill incorporated in a golf fitness program. The balance drills in a golf fitness program are designed to improve the golfer’s balance capacities relative to the golf swing. Power exercises in a golf fitness program are designed to improve clubhead speed. Where as power drills in other programs may be geared towards improving how fast you run.

Once the amateur golfer understands the connection between the golf swing and body, the elements of the body needing development relative to the golf swing, and the components of a golf fitness program. The final component of understanding is golf fitness training order.

Often times the amateur golfer desires more power (i.e. clubhead speed) in their golf swing. As a result they perform only exercises to enhance the power components within their body. What the amateur golfer fails to realize is developing golf strength, endurance, or power is useless if they do not have the flexibility or balance capacities to execute the golf swing. Developing the body for the golf swing requires the amateur golfer to follow a specific order relative to their training programs.

It is necessary for the amateur golfer to first develop their flexibility for the golf swing. Secondly proceed to increasing their balance capacities in relation to the golf swing. Continue the process with developing strength and endurance for the golf swing. Completing the process with power drills to enhance clubhead speed. This guarantees the effort placed within a golf fitness program will enhance the golfer’s swing. It becomes a simple process once the golfer is educated on the relationship between the golf swing and the body. The benefits a golf fitness program has upon the golfer’s swing, and how to implement golf fitness exercises correctly.

Shift your center of gravity with the latest irons from Nike Golf. SlingShot irons feature Air Center of Gravity (CG). Unlike conventional irons, the CG of the SlingShots is suspended in the air beyond the face thickness. As a result, the ball launches higher and it’s easier to square the club face — thanks to 455 stainless steel that’s lighter, yet stronger and faster.

But the SlingShot doesn’t stop there. The wide constant sole width of the SlingShot irons increases effective bounce to help prevent digging and “fat” shots. Then there’s Progressive Offset. Offset promotes solid contact and improved ball trajectory by positioning your hand ahead of the ball. The offset is greater in the long irons to allow additional time to square the club face before impact. It’s time to feel the revolution.
